SINGLENESS

In modern day society, the theme of singleness is perhaps the most insane of all marriage related topics. When almost every man and woman is tirelessly searching for a partner, either homo or hetero, talking about singleness would seem absurd. The status quo is that every man must marry failure to which one would be perceived as “unreal” or even tagged with such horrors as impotency, barren-ness, broke, proud, greedy, etcetera. But is this really the status quo ante?

 Many writers have published much on marriage and the married with almost nothing to console the single men and women in their predicament of great criticism. Talk shows, seminars, conferences and all manner of educative gatherings are arranged for married but a chicken’s change of information is given to those that have been called to singleness. If you seek to win a majority in the youth groups, only speak positive about dating and marriage. And while there is nothing wrong with such a take, it is evident that not considering the other side and giving it equal attention will result in its rapid extinction.

A closer look at the theme of singleness reveals to us the very diversity that God cherishes. It is true that God ordained marriage and it is holy. But it is also true that not everyone is purposed of God to marry. Singleness is not a curse!
