Photosynthesis is a very important metabolic process carried out by photosynthetic plants. This process has proven crucial to all aspects of living organisms. It uses raw material such as CO2 and water to produce very crucial products, oxygen and carbohydrates. Oxygen is a very fundamental material in cellular respiration and combustion processes. Carbohydrates too, in the from of starch when in plants are metabolized to produce energy for almost all living things on earth.
It therefore goes that photosynthesis and its various details is essential to understand. Understand it to molecular level has yielded much benefits. Molecular scientists are now exploring the probabilities of artificializing the photosynthetic pathways to come up with new energy sources and reduce global warming.
